Composer's Notes:
The Dieppe Raid took place on 19th August 1942. Many Canadian soldiers, who were based in Newhaven, took part. On this track, there is a short extract of an interview (in 2006) with Julie Coleman (sadly, no longer with us). She’s talking about her memories of the lead-up to the Dieppe Raid. She was a lifetime resident and very well-known character in the town, having taught many of the children who grew-up and still live there. It's impossible to do, but in writing this track, I tried to imagine what the Canadian soldiers may have been thinking as they travelled by sea to Dieppe. If I'd been one of them, I'd probably have been thinking of home.

The Spitfire Sisters - clever, catchy, retro-tunes with modern day lyrics - perfectly performed by 3 very classy ladies and their accompanying band of expert players. They're fab live too. Go see!. Mike Flood
